Genlinus D. Yusi was born in Quezon City on September 27, 1964 and finished his elementary education at the Ateneo De Manila in Loyola Heights, Quezon City in 1978 and his high school education at the University of the Philippines Integrated School in Diliman in 1982. He finished his pre-med Bachelor of Science degree in Biology at the University of the Philippines in Diliman in 1986 where he became a member of the UP Zoological Society. In 1990, he finished as a Doctor of Medicine at the University of the Philippines College of Medicine where he is also a member of the UP Medical Students Society and the Phi Kappa Mu medical fraternity batch 1987. He took his internship from 1990 to 1991 at the University of the Philippines-Philippine General Hospital Medical Center. He then took his General Surgery Residency and Urology Fellowship at the Department of Surgery and the Department of Urology of the National Kidney & Transplant Institute of the Philippines from 1992 to 1997. During this time he met his loving wife, Maria Aurora V. Alberto and they were married in 1993. They had Jean-Michael on the same year and Marie Genevieve 2 years later. After his Urology training, he took the Philippine Board of Urology written exams on July of 1997 where he placed 2nd and the oral exams on September of 1997 placing 1st. He finally received his certification as a Diplomate of the Philippine Board of Urology on October 12, 1998 when he passed his practical examination. He is currently an Associate Member of the Philippine Urological Association, Vice Chairman of the Committee of Library Services, and Webmaster.

Currently, he is engaged in his private practice at the National Kidney and Transplant Institute and the Capitol Medical Center where he is an active consultant. His other hospital affiliations include The Medical City, the St. Luke's Medical Center, the Cardinal Santos Medical Center, the Victor R. Potenciano Medical Center, the Quezon City Medical Center and the Far Eastern University-Nicanor Reyes.
